Have you seen the Rio version of the online video "Sh*t Native New Yorkers Say"? Called “O Jeitinho Carioca,” or "Sh*t Cariocas Say," the YouTube video (by 2olhares and Makulelê Productions) explores who are the Cariocas and show many of their mannerisms. Some things are just classic about Cariocas and Rio de Janeiro, as the ethnic multiversity; nature: forests, rocks, mountains, waterfalls and beaches; the passion for sports in general, mostly football, but also biking and running; and especially the search for quality of life and relaxed attitude towards life. If you travel to Rio de Janeiro, remember our tip: Blending with Cariocas is guaranteed fun! [caption id="attachment_7709" align="aligncenter" width="540"]

The people of Rio de Janeiro...
1. Suffer with a burning 40+degrees Celsius summer…
2. ...and when it hits 19 degrees they are already setting up fondue and wearing scarves in the street.
3. Treat everyone, even strangers, as if you were their best friend.
4. Say they hate the favela funk music but are always dancing to it in the nightclubs.
5. Always try to find an easier way to solve any problem.
6. Are always “a little” late.
7. Are always exercising: running or biking on the seaside street, or playing football or volleyball on the beach. 8. Love açai, a purple berry that's served as a hypercaloric smoothie, often mixed with bananas, and is very good for the heart and weight loss!
9. Are proud of their own city. Every Carioca adores Rio... and hates São Paulo. 10. Don’t miss a chance to make clever jokes. It’s part of the street culture of Rio de Janeiro, to be slick, or what they call “marrento”
11. Discuss football 24 hours a day, and are excessively passionate when it comes to their teams.
12. Pronounce the “S” as an “X;” for example Vasco becomes “Vaxco.”
13. Know that the city floods when it rains more than expected 14. Wear havaianas, the local name for flip-flops, no matter the occasion. Havaianas are the official Carioca shoes for the summer! 15. Drink organic Yerba Mate and herbal iced tea with lemonade, and eat “biscoito globo,” famous tapioca powder cookies, on the beach.
