Two inevitable highlights of the festival will be the ‘Great Wine Test’, a blind tasting whereby over a thousand bottles of wine will be sampled by some of the country’s most renowned wine curators, including Marcelo Copello, and the ‘Wine & Market’ workshop, where wine producers and importers will discuss everything that’s relevant to the Brazilian wine sector. On the final day of Rio Wine and Food Festival, the ABS (Brazilian Sommelier Association) will hold a competition for Rio de Janeiro’s best sommelier.

The Brazilian wine industry is currently booming, with one of the highest growth rates in the world, however the 430 million litres of Brazilian wine consumed per year is still a tiny amount in comparison with its neighbouring Argentines and Uruguayans. Do your bit to help boost the Brazilian wine industry and attend the Rio Wine and Food Festival- a great excuse to eat and drink yourself silly!
