New Year's Eve in Rio de Janeiro is world famous, and just got a bit more special for 2015/2016. This year, the Olympic Rings will appear floating in the sea of the city's most famous beach. This symbol of the Olympics will go alongside the traditional fireworks display on Copacabana beach, signalling the start of the year of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. During the 2012 Olympics in London, floating rings were also used in the Thames River. The structure that will appear in front of Copacabana beach is designed by Abel Gomes, and will be 20 metres high and 50 metres long. The rings will be installed 350 metres from the sand. The Marvellous City is in the countdown to the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2016, and the excitement and anticipation will be an integral part of this New Year's Eve.
