Why should you take photos in Jujuy?
Jujuy, one of the 23 provinces of the Argentine Republic, is an ideal destination for a variety of travel experiences: cultural, culinary, ecological, and above all those filled with color. And we don’t just mean the colors of the rainbow because this region is filled with magical little corners just waiting to be seen by the eyes of the most curious. Jujuy is a very popular destination right now. In addition to its charming landscapes, there are a variety of tourist attractions that make this province the place to be all year round. In fact, due to its northern charm, Jujuy was chosen as one of the best destinations to be considered for travel in 2018, according to the ranking of the prestigious National Geographic magazine. [caption id="attachment_13929" align="aligncenter" width="675"]Who will be helping you during this experience?
The first is Fernanda Iturrieta, born in Oberá (Misiones, Argentina), a photographer and a graduate of social sciences, education, and the humanities. Today she is the director of photography of the College of Audiovisual Media in the Art School of the National University of Misiones. Another is Aleema Curri, a photographer and therapist in mixed body techniques. Currently, she is the director of the Aleema Curri Pilates Center. Over the past four years, she has been conducting research and creating a photographic collection of the festivities typical of the Quebrada peoples of Humahuaca and the Puna of Jujuy. These women, along with the advice of the jujeño (of Jujuy) anthropologist, René Machaca, carry on this undertaking and are always in search of passionate photographers and travelers to join on this adventure.Where, when, and how do I participate?
This Photographic Experience in Jujuy called “Los Colorados Purmamarca” will be held in Purmamarca and take place on the night of the full moon to better appreciate the details of this area. Dates: Saturday, September 14th through Sunday, September 15th of 2019. Place: Purmamarca, in the Aimará language, means “people of the virgin earth” and is situated nearly 2 miles (3km) east of National Route 9 at the foot of the gorgeous Hill of Seven Colors, with its fabulous spectrum of colors that decorates the land around the village. This beautiful little town is also the gateway to the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The picturesque village of Adobe is home to a large indigenous population and a huge, colorful artisan market that pops up every day in the town square. The buildings in Adobe, made of cardón (a species of giant cactus) and mud, preserve the colonial architecture of Jujuy and will transport you back in time. The Paseo de los Colorados is an easy path to walk with a unique atmosphere and is about 1.5 miles (3km) up to the multicolored hill. Here the views are breathtaking and you will have the opportunity to see the brilliant stripes of reds, pinks, golds, and greens that give a name to this rocky formation. This wonder of nature is due to the fact that each of the layers is formed by a different type of sediment that has accumulated from the rivers and oceans over the last 600 million years.
