In a previous post we spoke about the Konex experience, but each time we visit we are convinced that this is one of the top attractions for those interested in Buenos Aires culture and night life. If you are visiting Buenos Aires and want a change from the usual night out, you need to go to the party at Konex, (near to the Abasto Shopping Centre) to see La Bomba de Tiempo perform. La Ciudad Cultural Konex is host to the percussion group every Monday evening no matter what the weather. The performance starts at 20.00 and ends at 22.00, with doors opening at 19.00. Once inside Konex, the first thing that strikes you is the size of the place. There is an industrial-sized steel staircase which dominates the middle of the outdoor area and a large wall with some incredible graffiti which adds to the alternative feel of the venue. La Bomba de Tiempo musicians / Source[/caption] La Bomba de Tiempo is made up of seventeen people including the conductor, Santiago Vazquez. The large projector screen concentrates on Santiago’s movements as he conducts the band using over seventy different hand, body and head movements. You have to remind yourself that all of the music is improvised and that the musicians are guided only by the various actions by Santiago, determining the beat changes and when the one-off composition will end. The most amazing part of their performance is that not one of the songs they play is pre-rehearsed therefore making every performance unique. The famous Porteño percussion group plays for about an hour and then they perform with a special guest on stage for another hour. We last visited La Bomba de Tiempo on Monday 24th October 2011. We had the honour to see a performance by bass clarinettist and saxophonist, Martin Pantyrer. Take into account that the act changes every week making each Monday performance the only one of its kind. As well as the large outdoor area and stage, there is a large covered area with a bar. You have to pay for your drinks at a cash register separate from the bar. Quilmes beer is sold by the litre and it is possible to buy a bottle of wine each costing AR$25.
