Brazil celebrates Labor Day on May 1, as do many other countries like England, Italy, and China. This year Labor Day in Rio de Janeiro is a Tuesday, which means that most of the workers have an extended holiday called a “hanging” (enforçar) Monday, popular slang in Brazil. If you're traveling to Brazil, it’s a great opportunity for touristic activities in Rio de Janeiro. Since it’s a holiday, everybody is enjoying the beach, the nature, parks, restaurants, and all the great Rio de Janeiro attractions. Remember to organize your plans in advance, because the banks are closed on Tuesday, as are most of the street stores. All the best places get crowded for lunch and dinner during holidays, especially in Ipanema and Leblon.
The nightlife is also very good during the holiday. Artists will be performing in the clubs and there are many other great attractions in Rio de Janeiro. From samba jazz in the historic city center  to art expositions in the modern art museums, cultural events are blooming on the Labor Day holiday in Rio.

On Sunday, the best travel activity in Rio de Janeiro is to wake up early and spend the day on the beach. The street is closed for cars at Copacabana, Ipanema, and Leblon, so you can rent one of the Itaú bikes on the street, or just walk and enjoy the view. At night, look for more of the great live music performances scattered throughout the city!
