It’s a Monday night in Buenos Aires. In any other city you may be forgiven for collapsing into bed after the first hard day of the working week. Not here. Instead, you should wake up, limber up and head on down to the Ciudad Cultural Konex, where you will find a feast for your eyes, ears and feet at La Bomba de Tiempo. The incredibly popular event, La Bomba de Tiempo, that takes place every week at 7pm, attracts a huge mixed crowd; locals and tourists, the cultured and the hip, the ‘seasoned’ and the ‘newbie’. Together, they form queues trailing around the corner of the impressive venue, the Konex, (an old converted oil factory in the neighbourhood of Abasto) for a peek at the spectacle that waits within the old stone walls. The sound of the week is created by the director Santiago Vazquez, who uses a system of more than 100 signs and gestures with his hands, fingers and body to lead the musicians in a frenzy of thumping beats. After an hour of swelling pulsating vibes, guest musicians who range from DJ’s to Folk artists, take to the stage to influence the tone with their own genre of music and form new, electric sounds. During the summer the energetic beats of La Bomba de Tiempo are played out under the starry night sky (come rain or shine!), while the winter show takes place in a large warehouse space. No matter what the season, this show is a truly unique combination of hypnotic rhythms, crazy dancing, and colourful people in a relaxed and friendly ambience. In no time, La Bomba de Tiempo will certainly have you tapping your feet …and before you know it you will be moving and ‘shakin’ your thang’ with the rest of the crowd! The cost of La Bomba de Tiempo is $30ARS (pre-bought on Ticketek) or $35ARS on the door. It is recommended to get there early as the queues can stretch round the block!
