Food Festival in Cordoba: The Ultimate Italian Feast!
Looking for something to do this long weekend in Argentina? Look no further than Cordoba, where the 24th annual Fiesta de las Comidas Típicas Caroyenses (Festival of Typical Caroyenses Food) is taking place. This Cordoba food festival takes place this weekend from 16 -18 August 2014.
44km from Cordoba City, in the Sierra Chicas, is Colonia Caroya. Italian immigrants settled in this area in 1877, moving to the heart of Argentina to farm despite the difficult and dry conditions. They built an extensive irrigation canal system that forever changed the surrounding hills and increased the area's fertility for agriculture. More importantly, these Italian settlers also brought with them typical Italian cuisine which today attracts gastro tourism to the region.

National and international tourists flock to this food festival in Cordoba Province to sample the delicious and authentic Italian cuisine on offer. Taste the smorgasbord of cheeses, salami, homemade breads, as well as a variety of pastas and gnocchi, all made with family recipes, passed down from generation to generation.
The Cordoba Food Festival will be held at the Bowls Sport Club in Colonia Caroya. The venue can seat up to 1200 people, and has stands where the traditional produce can be sampled and bought to take home. On offer is everything from salami, jams, preserves, pasta, bread, wine and desserts - all home-made of course!
Whilst tucking into a feast of Italian cuisine, you can sit back and enjoy traditional music and dance. There will also be a separate stage for musical groups, soloists and ballet performances. To see the full program, visit the Muncipality of Colonia Caroya's website.
The festival starts on Saturday the 16th at 8:30pm, Sunday the 17th from 12pm for lunch and 8:30pm for dinner, and on Monday the 18th the festival will be open from 12pm. No bookings are necessary.
Colonia Caroya can be accessed by National Route 9. For more information on how to get to Cordoba, check out our Cordoba travel guide.
