Did you know that 28% of the Bolivian national territory is located more than 3 thousand meters above sea level? In addition, it is located between two major Andean ranges: the Western and Eastern Cordillera and the Illimani.  Full of beautiful landscapes, Bolivian nature has created oases in the most inhospitable places. If you are one of those people who enjoy natural spectacles, take a look at this selection of dream lakes and lagoons in Bolivia that will leave you speechless.

Titicaca Lake

It is one of the most touristic places in this South American country. It is located specifically in the Andean Altiplano, it belongs to Bolivia and Peru. This lake is one of the most impressive and interesting lakes in the world. In fact, it is also the highest navigable lake on the planet, as it is more than 3,800 meters above sea level.  Undoubtedly, it is a place of great spiritual importance. In Andean mythology, the lake is said to be the birthplace of civilization, where the Inca god Viracocha rose from the water to create the sun, the moon, the stars and all living things.

Blanca Lagoon

The Blanca Lagoon is located in the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve, in the Sud Lípez Province in the department of Potosí. Its waters have a whitish color due to the high content of suspended minerals in the water. It is located 4,350 meters above sea level and covers an area of 11 square kilometers. As a reference point, the lagoon is located immediately after the border with Chile at Hito Cajón.

The Pantanal

The Bolivian Pantanal is of great biological importance due to the existence of large extensions of dry, undisturbed forests. It is one of the largest flooded areas in the world. Much of this natural beauty is shared with Brazil and Paraguay.  This natural wonder is located in the department of Santa Cruz and gives us beautiful landscapes framed by the lush jungle of wooded vegetation, aquatic plants, rivers, streams, leaves and floating flowers. Undoubtedly, visiting the Bolivian Pantanal is an unforgettable experience for the amount of wildlife that you will be able to appreciate.

Colorada Lagoon

It is perhaps the most beautiful lagoon that exists in Bolivia, because in addition to its reddish color, the mirror of water is mixed between yellow and blue, a true spectacle! It is located in the department of Potosi, in an area dotted with mountains, geysers, hot springs and volcanoes. It is an Andean-saline type lagoon, dotted with small islands of sodium, which owes its tone to the sediments of a species of algae that lives there. But do not expect to always find the same color: depending on the sunlight, time of day and time of year, the waters can be blood red or rather an intense brown tone. This mirror of water is located high in the Andes (more than 4,000 meters above sea level) and has an area of 54 square kilometers and an average depth of just 35 centimeters, which makes it an ideal place for breeding some of the rarest flamingo species in the world.  To see all these flamingo species in all their splendor, it is best to go during the summer months, before they migrate. Travel tip: Definitely a place to enjoy responsibly. Do not get too close to the flamingos so as not to scare them; and do not fly drones in this place, even if no one tells you otherwise. The animals are easily frightened.

Green Lagoon

The green lagoon is one of the most beautiful natural landscapes of the country. An immense volcano, perfectly conical with this turquoise lagoon at its feet. A deluge of beauty for the eyes of any traveler. This lagoon is located in the Bolivian altiplano, in the natural reserve of Andean fauna "Eduardo Avaroa", the most visited protected area in the country, with at least 30,000 visitors a year. Why do they say that "You can see it and not touch it"? When you see the green lagoon, the first thing that crosses your mind is the possibility of swimming. Unfortunately it is impossible, since its waters are completely toxic, due to its high content of magnesium, arsenic and other minerals. Travel tip: It is worth sitting on a rock to contemplate what seems surreal. 100% recommended!

There is no doubt that Bolivia's natural beauty is inexhaustible. It is full of dreamlike places and almost virgin landscapes, like the ones we have just seen.

And for you, which Bolivian places should we visit next?
