Iguazú National Park is located in the Misiones Province in the Northeastern tip of Argentina, bordering the Brazilian state of Parana. Explore the trails

There are a number of trails that can be explored in Iguazú National Park, such as the Upper Circuit, which takes you through the upper falls area and the Lower Circuit, a circular path from which you have access to eight different major viewpoints. You can also take a boat to Isla San Martin from here, where you can enjoy a beautiful beach and some exceptional views. The boat is free and the crossing takes just three minutes.

Take the train up to the Devil’s Throat

The Garganta del Diablo, ie. Devil’s Throat, is a giant waterfall in the shape of a horseshoe. You can take the Rainforest Ecological Train to the entrance, or reach it via the Paseo Garganta del Diablo, a kilometre long trail which takes you directly over the falls.

Relax with a tasty meal

There are several restaurants in the park, such La Selva, a buffet-style restaurant featuring hot and cold dishes and all-you-can-eat parrilla. If you’re happy to fork out a little more, then Restaurante Garganta del Diablo is another, rather more elegant, option which offers spectacular views over the waterfalls as well as delicious local cuisine. On top of these, there are plenty of fast food shacks and shops selling sandwiches, pizzas and empanadas.

Admire the wildlife

The wildlife in Iguazú National Park is almost as fascinating as the falls themselves. Amongst other animals, you’re likely to see exotic birds, jaguars, crocodiles, monkeys and coatis. Be careful, as these last two are prone to biting, stealing food and rummaging through bags, so watch your possessions!

Location: National Highway N° 12, Province Highway N° 101 Puerto Iguazu, Misiones – Argentina

Days & Hours: Every day from 8am to 6pm

Time required: one full day

  • Be sure to bring plenty of water along with you.
  • Carry sun cream and insect repellent
  • Check the difficulty level of the trails before you choose to embark on them
  • Bring an extra change of clothes as you are very likely to get wet.
  • If you are planning to visit the Brazilian side of the Iguazú Falls, be aware that US passport holders will require a visa (US$160), which is NOT issued at the border.
