If you travelling to Rio de Janeiro and have some extra time after exploring the main attractions of Rio, a great option is to take a short trip to Búzios, a paradisiacal village just 2 hours away from the Marvellous City. It is a typical getaway for Cariocas especially during the summer because of its beautiful beaches, nice restaurants and exciting night life. So, if you have a day off during your vacation in Rio, don´t miss the chance to visit Búzios even if it is just for a day! Read on for our Buzios guide for day trips from Rio de Janeiro.

Note: Today, we are going to explain how to get there from Rio on a day trip by car, on a tour or by bus for those who have a tight schedule during their trip to Rio. We also have a guide of Buzios for people who intend to stay longer in the city.

Búzios on a day tour: the perfect Rio getaway

If you book a Búzios day tour from Rio, your day will start with a 1h30/2h journey to the town of Búzios. Once you arrive at the village center, you will have some time to explore it and get the chance to go to the beach before taking a boat ride.

The ride includes visits to some of the most famous beaches of Búzios, like Azeda, João Fernandes and Tartaruga. You will have time to enjoy the best of each one of them and have lunch on the boat. Once you’re back on land, you will take the road to Rio, ending your perfect day in Búzios.

A day in Búzios on your own: by car or bus

You can also get to Búzios by car or bus. If you rent one, just program the GPS system and you get there easily (choose the Via Lagos road and not the BR101 one, because it’s better). You will probably arrive in 1h30/2h.

Since you only have a day, you can choose to get to know the beaches by car or take a boat ride to some of them. If you decide to do it driving, get a map of the area in the tourist center and explore its hilly streets. The access to most beaches is quite easy and it's well sign-posted. Choose one to spend some more time there and have lunch , they usually have great seafood dishes.

If you choose to enjoy Búzios by boat, you should do as most people, who travel there by bus do: go to the pier in the city center and either hire a tour along 3 beaches (usually Azeda, João Fernandes and Tartaruga) or grab a taxi boat (they are cheaper and can take you to almost all beaches of Búzios).

If you get tired of the beach (if that's even possible!), you may enjoy a relaxing walk in the famous Rua das Pedras (Rocks Street), which has great restaurants and stores. Disembarking from the pier, it will be to your right. If you go to your left, you will get to the statue of Brigitte Bardot (who visited Búzios decades ago and is partly responsible for the city's fame).

If you really can’t, take the road back to Rio. However, if you do have some free time, it's well worth staying. There are a lot of things to do in Búzios and in its surroundings – read our more complete Búzios guide for those with more time in this idyllic town.
