Billabong Pro Rio 2013
To add to the list of endless activities in Rio de Janeiro,
Today the Billabong Rio Pro comes to town.
The ASP World Tour features competitions in different parts of the world, where elite surfers compete for the title of World Champion. The next edition of the Billabong Pro Rio is said to be one of the most interesting events of the circuit to date, given the large number of Brazilian surfers competing. The dream tour is set to begin in Rio today and will feature a total of $ 500,000 in prizes and define who will fight for the title this year.
The surf at the La Barra De Tijuca beach is as crowded as it can get, with challenges for all levels of surfers. The score is based on the surfer’s performance on a series of waves. Surfing action does not get any better than this, with sponsors showing off their latest gear and hosting chill-out fiestas after the event.
Hometown hero Adriano de Souza from Brazil will be competing in the event following his win at the Rip Curl Pro in Australia last month. De Souza now currently sitting at the No. 4 position on the ASP WCT, is looking to continue his success in Rio and make a push for the World Title.
The Colgate Plax Girls Rio Pro will also be held from the 8th to the 14th of May at the same location, where the girls are already almost at the final stretch of the season. So if you find yourself lucky enough to be in Rio tomorrow, make sure you check out this awesome event. This event is free and open to the public and will run from the May 8 to 19.
