2014 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro
Brazilian’s passion for football seems to be getting even stronger as the big games get closer. Many football stadiums are being renovated, and a few new ones are being built around Brazil. The biggest and most famous football stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Maracanã, is being fully revitalized for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Rio de Janeiro. According to Brazil’s news broadcast it’s happening at a quick pace, with approximately 4,600 workers currently involved in its construction. Right now 39% of the stadium is ready. The refurbishment of the inferior seats will be ready by December 2012, as the stadium has to host the Confederations Cup before the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The Brazilian government plans to have the Maracanã ready as soon as February 2013, but you can check how it’s going right now as the stadium is open for tourists. Brazil is also working on getting ready for the 2016 Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee recently visited Rio de Janeiro to check Brazil's progress in getting ready for the Games. The IOC president, Nawal El Moutawakel, met with Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff and Rio de Janeiro’s Governor, Sérgio Cabral, to discuss Olympic Games preparations. According to the news, the committee seemed satisfied with the preparations for the Olympic Games in Brazil, and especially impressed by Rio’s effort to make the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro a great event for Brazil and the people who will be traveling to Rio from all over the world.
