If you travel to the north of Chile you must make this Tour to the Valley of the Moon and Valley of Death in the Atacama Desert. Many people consider this area to be the most inhospitable place on the planet and we invite you to explore it.
The walk will take place in the Cordillera de la Sal, an area eroded by water and wind for millions of years. This Tour to the Valley of the Moon and Valley of the Death will take you to observe landscapes from another planet, thanks to the surprising geologic formations that you will find.
Your day begins as we pick you up at your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama. First you will visit the Valley of the Moon, which was declared a Nature Sanctuary in 1982, and is part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve. The valley received this name due to its great similarity with the lunar landscapes. There is no life in this valley, nor humidity, making it the most inhospitable place on the planet. From here, you will appreciate the salt sculptures known as Las Tres Marías that were formed by wind erosion.
The second stop will be at the Valley of Death or "Valley of Mars", named after its huge dunes with narrow edges of the sand. It is characterized by its strange geological forms and its incredible rock sculptures. It is one of the most recommended sites for trekking and sandboarding.
