Itinerary
Of all the tours from Salta designed to help you enjoy the best of Argentina’s northwest, Safari to the Clouds and Humahuaca is one of the most complete. Throughout this fabulous two-day adventure, you will discover some of the most iconic attractions in the country and become immersed in the seductive ambience of the region’s stunning natural landscapes.
Day 1. Safari to the Clouds: Your first day on board the Movitrack begins with a climb into the Andean Cordillera – following the route of the famous Train to the Clouds – through Quebrada del Toro and northwards on to the quaint mountain village of San Antonio de los Cobres. After indulging in some local delicacies for lunch, you will continue with a journey across the Puna grasslands up to the white wonder of Salinas Grandes: the largest salt lake in Argentina. Having taken those once-in-a-lifetime holiday snapshots, clamber back into the Movitrack for a ride down the dramatic winding roads of Cuesta de Lipán towards the charming town of Purmamarca, located in the foothills of the simply spectacular Cerro de los Siete Colores.
Day 2. Quebrada de Humahuaca: After spending the night in one of the local villages (an array of delightful accommodation options are available), it is time to explore the enchanting magic of Humahuaca Valley. Flanked by the high plateau, this designated UNESCO World Heritage Site offers a sumptuous blend of sights and colours – soak in the authentic delights of Maimará; visit Tilcara, the archaeological capital of the north; and stop by the tiny archaic pueblo of Uquía. From ruins of the Incan empire to traces of Argentina’s fight for independence, these three rural outposts together offer stories of a bygone era. A small city tour around Humahuaca brings an end to this two-day excursion, whereafter you will be transferred back to Salta with the satisfaction of having seen some of most breathlessly beautiful vistas in Argentina.
