Description
On a day trip to Penguino Rey Park explore the northern part of the large island of Tierra del Fuego, navigate the mythical Strait of Magellan and contemplate the beauty of the imposing King Penguin, the second-largest penguin in the world.
The tour starts at 7 am with the pick up from your hotel in Punta Arenas to go to the terminal in Tres Puentes to board a 2 hour and 15-minute ferry that will take us to Porvenir. We will sail through the Strait of Magellan, a historic channel 583 km long that connects the waters of the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic. In Porvenir, we will take a short tour of the city and visit the Fernando Cordero Rusque Museum which disseminates the cultural testimony of the history and nature of Tierra del Fuego through exhibitions of fauna and collections of archaeology and ethnography of the Selknam, ancient inhabitants of the territory.
Then we will continue our way by land, bordering the Bahía Inútil, where we will be able to appreciate diverse birds, sheep ranches and herds of guanacos. After about 110 km we will arrive at King Penguin Park, where a permanent colony of this species resides, unique in the American continent and the largest in size after the emperor penguin. We will stay there for an hour to see the birds that dive best in their natural habitat, at a distance of approximately 15 meters. We will also visit the village of Cerro Sombrero where we will make a 30 minute stop for lunch (includes Box Lunch) and then cross the Strait of Magellan again, this time for its narrowest part (Primera Angostura) only 5 km wide. There we will navigate in a ferry during 20 minutes to then begin the terrestrial return to Punta Arenas, passing by the Estancia San Gregorio, one of the first and more historical of the region whose facilities date from 1878 and today are abandoned.
Book a day trip to King Penguin Park and live an authentic family adventure, surrounded by wonderful scenery, always with the assistance of a bilingual guide who will provide valuable information and be attentive to your needs. Make the most of your vacation in Chile!
