Itinerary to Copacabana and Island of the Sun from La Paz
Copacabana is known for its mysticism, its customs and traditions that attract the attention of locals and tourists, preserving the heritage of the Chiripa, Tihuanacota and Inca cultures.
Excursion
Your adventure to Copacabana and Island of the Sun begins once you are picked up at your hotel in La Paz. From there you will embark on an hour and a half trip where you will enjoy views of the Royal Andes Mountains until you reach the town of Copacabana. There you will visit its impressive colonial church and the famous Virgen Morena de Copacabana.
After enjoying a delicious fish lunch, you will head to the dock to depart by boat on the waters of the great Lake Titicaca to the southern part of the Island of the Sun. You will have an hour and a half to enjoy the highest navigable lake in the world before reaching the island.
The Island of the Sun
- Isla del Sol is a destination of great beauty with terraced crops and the blue lake in the background. It has a very special charm, as it is considered the place where the Inca Empire began. It is about 9 kilometers long and about 5 km wide.
- Furthermore, it is a sacred site where you can still hear people speaking the Aimara and Quechua languages.
After arriving at Island of the Sun you will take a short 20-minute walk to the ruins of the Pilcocaina Archaeological Center, where the Incas once held ceremonies to worship the representation of the Sun God. From there you will continue along the "Ladder of the Yumani", following the same path that the Incas used to walk to reach the Fountain of Youth.
The tour ends with the return to Copacabana and then to your hotel after having spent a different day full of tradition and culture.
