Itinerary Description
Day 1: Descent into the Heart of the Canyon
Early Departure from Arequipa: Our journey begins early in the morning with a pickup from your accommodation in Arequipa. We will head towards the Colca Valley in a comfortable transfer of approximately 3 hours, with a brief stop in Chivay to enjoy breakfast.
Condor Cross Viewpoint: Our first destination is the Condor Cross Viewpoint, located at 3,800 meters above sea level. Here, you will have the unique opportunity to witness the majestic flight of condors in their natural habitat. This spectacle, along with panoramic views of volcanoes and snow-capped peaks, is simply unmatched.
Start of the Hike from San Miguel Pampa: From San Miguel Pampa (3,300 m.a.s.l.), we will begin an exciting 7.5-kilometer hike descending towards the bottom of the canyon. This segment of approximately 3 hours will allow you to enjoy impressive landscapes and connect with nature in its purest form.
Arrival in San Juan de Chuccho: Upon arriving at the picturesque village of San Juan de Chuccho, we will enjoy a well-deserved rest and a delicious lunch (not included). Afterward, we will continue our 4-kilometer hike (about 2.5 hours) passing through the villages of Cosñirhua and Malata, until we reach our final destination for the day: Sangalle (1,900 m.a.s.l.), known as the "Oasis."
Night at the Sangalle Oasis: In Sangalle, you can relax and enjoy a refreshing dip in the natural pool. The day ends with a comforting dinner and the tranquility of a night under the stars.
Day 2: Ascent and Cultural Exploration
Sunrise Ascent: Our second day begins early, at 5:00 am, with a 4-kilometer ascent hike that will take us approximately 3 hours. During this segment, we will witness a spectacular sunrise as we climb the canyon slope towards Cabanaconde (3,230 m.a.s.l.).
Exploration of Cabanaconde: Cabanaconde, located in the province of Caylloma, welcomes us with its warmth and traditions. Here, we will enjoy an Andean breakfast and explore the village, admiring the colorful traditional costumes and its cultural richness.
Scenic Route to Chivay: From Cabanaconde, we will head to Chivay with strategic stops at the Antahuilque Viewpoint and the Andean village of Maca, where we will appreciate its beautiful colonial church. We will also visit Yanque, where you will have the option to enjoy the thermal baths with healing properties.
Lunch in Chivay and Return to Arequipa: After a delicious lunch in Chivay (not included), we will depart back to Arequipa, passing through the Pampa Cañahuas National Reserve. This final segment of the journey offers the opportunity to see diverse wildlife and impressive landscapes before arriving back in the city.
Option to Transfer to Puno: If you prefer, you can opt to end your tour in Puno. You will depart from Chivay at 1:00 pm and arrive at the Main Plaza of Puno at 7:00 pm.
